Thomas T. Kim is Senior Vice President of Commercial Real Estate Finance at the Mortgage Bankers Association. Tom heads MBA's Commercial Real Estate Finance Group in representing the interests of member companies in the commercial/multifamily real estate finance industry. He leads public policy and member engagement across all commercial real estate finance sectors, including mortgage banking companies, bank portfolio lenders, life insurance companies, multifamily-focused lending institutions, affordable housing lenders, commercial mortgage-backed securities issuers, and investment management firms.

Among the policy and industry matters that Tom oversees are financial services regulation, portfolio lending, securitization and capital markets, multifamily housing finance reform and affordable rental housing policy. In his member engagement role, Tom manages MBA's CREF business councils and committees, executive roundtables, content development for MBA's CREF conferences, industry standards and best practices. He also advises the Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Board of Governors.

Tom serves on the board of directors of MBA's Opens Doors Foundation, which provides mortgage and rental assistance grants to families with critically-ill children. He is also a co-founder and board member of a nonprofit organization that combats human trafficking in developing countries.

Prior to joining MBA, Tom served as Associate General Counsel at Freddie Mac, where he advised the company on a broad range of legal, regulatory and public policy matters affecting mortgage investments and capital markets. He was previously in-house counsel at the Investment Company Institute where he focused on legislative and regulatory matters that impact mutual funds and their shareholders. Tom received his B.A. summa cum laude from the University of California, Irvine, J.D. from the UCLA School of Law where he served as a law review editor, and LL.M. with distinction from the Georgetown Law Center.
