The WSU Current Conditions Index increased 0.1 percent from fourth quarter 2009 to first quarter 2010; yet, it remains 13.3 percent below first quarter 2009. All of the Index indicators showed improvement from fourth quarter 2009, except seasonally adjusted home sales and the seasonally adjusted number of outbound passengers at Mid-Continent Airport. Those declines were 14.7 and 3.5 percent, respectively.

In the six months ending in March, the Index declined only one month, which is encouraging. However, total improvement during that time period was only 0.5 percent, a rather tentative rebound, but hopefully a strong enough base on which to build a viable recovery.
