The WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index increased 1.5 percent in July. However, significant fluctuation in the inflation-adjusted value of nonresidential building permits in Wichita has hampered the Index from any lasting growth over the past few months. The July Index value of 107.2 was the same value as in November 2009. The Wichita economy has moved toward stability by fits and starts. As a forward looking measure of what we may expect, the Index has yet to point toward a future grounded on solid, consistent growth. Yet, from time to time individual indicators within the Index provide a glimpse of a brighter future.
