The WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index increased each of the five months ending in August, for a total increase of 3.8 percent. A significant contributor to the 0.9 percent increase from July to August was the 39.1 percent decline in the number of Kansas initial unemployment claims. The indicator restraining the Index value the most was the inflation-adjusted value of Wichita’s non-residential building permits, which decreased 56.6 percent from July to August.
