After seven months of consecutive growth, the WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index is the highest it’s been since June 2009. Many of the Index indicators have fluctuated over that time, particularly the real value of non-residential building permits.  Fortunately, the nine indicators that compose the Index do not all fluctuate in the same direction each month, thereby, providing an opportunity for month-to-month Index growth. The number of initial unemployment claims in Kansas, one of the Index indicators, may warrant the closest monitoring over the next few months. Claims rose 44 percent from September to October.
