A native of southeast Kansas, Dr. Grimes earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in economics from Pittsburg State University. In 1984 he received his Ph.D. in economics from Oklahoma State University.  Prior to returning to his alma mater as dean, Dr. Grimes served 25 years as a faculty member and administrator for Mississippi State University.  He is the author of more than seventy scholarly research publications and coauthor of the bestselling Economics of Social Issues textbook.  In 2005 he was recognized for his contributions to economic education research with the Henry H. Villard Award presented by the National Council on Economic Education. In 2010, the Southern Economic Association presented him the Kenneth G. Elzinga Distinguished Teaching Award.  He is a past president of the National Association of Economic Educators and is currently the Editor-in-Chief of The American Economist, the academic journal published by Omicron Delta Epsilon, the International Honor Society in Economics.
