A recent analysis by the Center for Economic Development and Business Research revealed both positive and negative information in regard to labor markets. The encouraging news is that contraction of labor markets seems to be coming to an end, initial claims for unemployment are declining and June 2010 online job postings in the Wichita MSA increased over June 2009. The discouraging news is that it will be a long time before employment returns to pre-recession levels; continuing claims for unemployment may have declined from the peak, but they remain elevated; and rising unemployment has led to record high levels of long-term joblessness.
