The Kansas, Inc. Board of Directors commissioned a study to analyze and better understand the historical dynamics of growth and change within the service sector in Kansas.  The report provides a comprehensive overview of the service sector, with additional focus on service sector drivers in Kansas.  This analysis includes a definition of the service sector, service sector industry drivers in Kansas, and an examination of the relevance of the service sector to the overall economy.  In order to examine the structural changes within the economy, much of this report focuses on data from 2002 through 2008 – the period of the last business cycle expansion. 

The associated Excel file contains detailed industry data for service sector industries.  The worksheets include a 2008 location quotient, annual change in U.S. employment from 2002 through 2008, and Kansas or MSA annual employment change relative to the U.S. for each detailed industry.
