After a small increase from June to July, the WSU Leading Economic Indicators Index dropped 1.1 percent in August. The Index indicator showing the largest decline in August was the real value of new orders for aircraft and aircraft parts, nationally, which decreased 84 percent. The components of the Index showing improvement included a 91.9 percent increase in the real value of Wichita’s residential building permits, a nearly 12-fold increase in the real value of nonresidential building permits, and a 25.6 percent drop in Kansas initial unemployment claims.
