Wichita’s employment grew 1.7 percent in 2008, while the nation’s employment declined 0.6 percent. By the end of 2009, Wichita was no longer outperforming the nation.  U.S. employment decreased 4.3 percent, while Wichita’s employment declined 5.1 percent.  In 2010, Wichita’s total nonfarm employment is estimated to decrease 2.4 percent, and the forecast for 2011 is an increase of 0.6 percent, for a total gain of 1,630 jobs.
